Conditions of Entry

Entering a music competition is an exciting experience, and the Eisteddfod committee has engaged local music teachers to streamline the process for you.

The information below provides details on how to enter, what to anticipate, and the Eisteddfod rules that ensure the smooth efficient running of our joyous event.

General Information

  • The Eisteddfod is open to amateur musicians only

  • All sessions will occur at the Albany Entertainment Centre except for Solo Pipe Organ performances on Monday evening in the Free Reformed Church [cnr Beaufort St/North Rd].

  • Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled performance time – it is never good to be rushed when performing music.

  • As with music events all over the world, delays can occur so please note that the scheduled times are indicative only and may vary. Every effort will be made to keep to schedule.

  • Students must remain in the Green room at the AEC but may join their parents in the auditorium after performing.

  • Volunteer supervisors will be present in the green room at all times, so parents with work commitments may drop their children and return at lunchtime or after work to collect them.

  • All entries are submitted online by clicking the entries tab above.

Performers are permitted to play more than one piece, but only one piece from each of List A,B,C or D as published in the AMEB syllabus.

Students may also perform non-AMEB pieces, and specialist instrumental teachers engaged by the committee will ensure these pieces are assigned to an appropriate AMEB grade.

Please ensure the correct length of the piece is entered so that we can schedule sections more accurately. Ask someone to time you playing your piece straight through with no stops. Alternatively, Google a recording which will state the length of the piece.

Don’t worry too much - all entries will be checked by instrumental specialists to ensure correct titles and details for the piece to be performed have been included.

If you have a query about your enrolment, please contact the relevant instrumental specialist from the table below.

Entries will be open until 11:59pm on Wednesday 14 May 2025

  • All family and friends are welcome to attend sessions during the week.

We ask that audiences remain in the auditorium for the whole session to limit disruption and distraction for performers

Entrance to the theatre will only be permitted in-between performances so that performers are not distracted by people moving within the auditorium.

We also ask that parents ensure all children remain quietly seated during all performances.

It is essential that the noise level in-between performances is kept to a minimum so as not to distract the adjudicator who is writing their assessment of the preceding performance

The entry fee for each session is a Gold coin donation upon entry

Tickets to the Showcase Concert at the Albany Entertainment Centre are available via AEC box office

    Adult $35

    Concession / Under 18 $20

    Family (2 adults, 2 children) $90

  • First, Second and Highly Commended certificates will be awarded for each item. However, it is at the discretion of the adjudicator not award a First place if it is unwarranted.

All entrants indicate on their entry forms their availability to perform in the Showcase Concert. However, not all first-place getters will automatically gain selection as the number of performances is necessarily limited.

Those who are shortlisted to perform at the Showcase Concert will be chosen by the adjudicators in consultation with the committee and will demonstrate the wide variety of musical talent demonstrated during the week.

  • Photos and videos of each performance will be taken by the committee-appointed photographers during each event, so we ask that you sit back and enjoy the performance in real time, undistracted by having to photograph or video your child. These professional-standard photos will be made available for sale via albanyeisteddfod.shootproof.com

  • Competitors are requested to observe a reasonable standard of dress. School uniforms are acceptable.

  • There is no official accompanist appointed by the Eisteddfod committee, so speak to your teacher about obtaining an accompanist.

  • Please respect other performers and remain silent during the rendition of all items on the program. Any competitors causing disruption or offending in this respect may be banned from the whole Eisteddfod.

  • A detailed critique of the work of each choir will be given by the adjudicator. One conductor may conduct any number of choirs.

  • As a general rule, repeats should not be played unless they are essential to keep the musical sense of the piece.

  • Competitors will upload PDF copies of the sheet music being performed with their on-line entry. Copies of music are required for the adjudicator to accurately critique the performance. Notes and markings do not need to be removed from these copies.

A piece should be performed from an original score, unless the piece of music and/or edition is in the public domain.

  • The adjudicator has the right to withhold a certificate in any section where sufficient merit has not been displayed.

  • The adjudicator’s decision will be final and on no account should competitors or teachers approach the adjudicator.

  • In all competitions subject to an age limit, the age at 1st January shall be deemed to be the age of the competitor.
