Helen Kruger

Helen is a Perth violinist, returned from 18 years in the UK studying at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), London and working with the leading early music ensembles and orchestras throughout England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, the Canary Islands, and Australia! 

Helen performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) for 13 years and was a core member of the OAE education team for 10 years, delivering cutting edge projects throughout the UK.

Helen was the Director of the RAM First String Experience chamber music program for 7 years and a Founding Director of the South Hampstead String Program. She was the Founding Director of a music improvisation program for the homeless for 2 years and co-founded the North London Chamber Music Course. Helen started the Little Baroque Co. whilst completing her Masters at RAM which toured the UK and Europe for over 13 years, with one highlight being a summer opera season at the Rothschild Estate in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, on the border of Monaco. 

Helen led the Kruger Quartet for 4 years, performing Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in South Africa, Europe, Caribbean, UK, Estonia, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago. After the birth of her children, Helen gave up much of the international touring and went on to direct the London-based, Stoke Newington Early Music Festival for 2 years. 

Since returning to Australia Helen has founded Australian Baroque, now in its sixth year. In 2024 they performed 88 concerts including a 12-week touring schedule and countless masterclasses and workshops. Helen is passionate about education and working with metro and regional communities, directing a WA school-based artist residency every year for the past 4 years in Margaret River, Narrogin, Shark Bay and metro Perth. Helen co-founded the Perth String Project with Rebecca Hooper; a weekly string education program for ages 4-9, focusing on musicianship and chamber music. As Director of Community Engagement at Perth Symphony, Helen directed the community-based Narrogin Green Shoots program and an ongoing partnership with the City of Karratha.

Helen has 2 children, is an avid baker and runner, and loves exploring WA.
