Helen Tuckey – General Sections

Helen Tuckey toured overseas as a leading teenage violist with the Melbourne and Australian Youth orchestras.

Graduating from Victorian College of the Arts while working in Melbourne Symphony, she completed post-Graduate studies in New York with Lillian Fuchs.

Since then, she has been a member of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. She has presented chamber music in schools and communities throughout WA in conjunction with Musica Viva, WASO and independently.

An AMEB examiner, she has also contributed to viola syllabus development in Australia and has commissioned viola repertoire.

She is regional representative for WA for the Australia New Zealand Viola Society and is National President of the Australian Strings Association, AUSTA. She teaches privately and her students have entered AYO, WAYO, AYO Young Symphonists, string teaching and professional orchestras.

Matt Ward – Voice sections

Matt Ward holds a Master of Vocal Performance from the Royal College of Music London (RCM Yvonne Wells Award) and a Bachelor in Classical Voice and a Certificate II in Music Theatre from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Stage credits include the Messenger in Stephen Fry’s Life to Come (Britten Theatre), Western Union Boy in English Touring Opera’s Olivier Award Winning Paul Bunyan (Linbury Studio Royal Opera House, UK tour), Frantz in Tales of Hoffmann (ETO, UK tour), Giacomo in L’assedio di Calais (Armel Operafesztivál Budapest, Arte TV live broadcast, ETO), Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte (Mid Wales Opera), Borsa in Rigoletto (Opera Project), Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio and Carter in King Tut (Charles Court Opera London). For West Australian Opera Matt has performed School Master/ Mosquito in The Cunning Little Vixen, Remendado in Carmen, Mercury in Orpheus in the Underworld, A Lawyer in Peter Grimes, and as a soloist in Young Artist Concert Series.

Matt also works in opera community engagement as creative director of the Vocal Performance Initiative, fostering collaborations between professional and community singing groups. In addition, Matt has led and assisted on projects for BBC Symphony Family Orchestra & Chorus, BBC Proms Sing Plus, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Education (Glyndebourne), Royal College of Music Sparks Family Orchestra & Chorus London and Operasonic UK.
